Allegra Spender

Wentworth's Independent

A winning campaign for Wentworth

In 2022, Brains worked again with the newly formed Wentworth Independent group, who selected Allegra Spender as their candidate for the federal election. We dubbed her “Wentworth’s Independent”, which resonated throughout the disparate community that makes up the peninsula electorate.

Importantly, the campaign focussed on local issues relevant to the division – such as the dearth of public schools in Wentworth. While the campaign was not run on ‘party lines’, the awareness of responsibility to the environment, which neither major party was (or is) addressing, was a key theme in the campaign – and is a hallmark of ‘teal’ politics.

This was a comprehensive campaign with clever strategies to combat the popularity of incumbent Dave Sharma. It encompassed everything from overarching messaging, branding and visuals to a donation-friendly website, policy PDFs, TVCs, social videos, direct mail, print, digital signage and awareness events. We developed OOH, written to appeal to certain cohorts according to location, an electric bus, car magnets, core flutes, display advertising, cinema advertising, programmatic, youtube pre-roll, catch-up TV pre-roll, paid social, mail drops and how-to-vote cards.

Allegra Spender achieved a 54% swing on two-candidate preferred to unseat popular Liberal party candidate Dave Sharma.
